Morris Said:A side dish to compliment a lamb dinner?
We Answered:Risotto is delicious and it goes well with lamb, as does rice pilaf. Roast asparagus would work too, and if your not concerned about time constraints you could make a spinach pie. Spinach & Cheese Croquettes, tomato fritters, etc. Good luck with your dinner!
Lauren Said:What can I use instead of redcurrant jelly/jam for Nigella Lawson salad?
We Answered:How about using frozen redcurrants, which you can get from the supermarket. Just pop into a saucepan with sugar, should do the trick. Good Luck
Betty Said:what do you think of this for a dinner party for 4 people pate and salad lamb new pots and veg?
We Answered:Too fatty, you need to get a contrast among the dishes. Paté is mostly liver and fat, lamb is one of the fattiest meats, and the knickerbocker glory will have ice cream and cream, again more fat.
If you're sticking to paté, have poultry or fish for your main, even a lean beef dish will do at a pinch, but if you stick to lamb have a fruity pudding with none or very little cream or ice-cream.
Charlotte Said:What does "like a lamb in salad" mean?
We Answered:Never heard of that one and neither has google!
Barbara Said:What's the best salad leaf to accompany lamb?
We Answered:Get soe rocket ( aragula) , its a dark green herb, nutty peppery and beautiful. Make a salad with the rocket, some dark green romaine leaves ( cut out the spine) and some radicchio with endive.
This is a bitter string salad, and perfect with lamb which is rich and creamy. I would also add some orange pieces to the salad- it goes perfect with the meat and the feta- and really add the final cherry on the meal.If you don't want to use orange, cherries would do. Not mayn, just a tiny wedge here and there. They are rich and sweet. and balance the cheese and lamb.
Be sure to try get the rocket, it makes the difference. and the endive and radicchio. Use a simple dressing with it.
Deanna Said:What sort of salad and side dishes go with a lamb on a spit?
We Answered:Side dish: Grilled bell peppers, onions ( for those who like onions), chunks of tomatoes, and eggplants- marinated in plain yogurt for a couple of hours, then just add to grill and serve around lamb and on pockets of pita bread to keep warm.
Salad: mix dish of romaine lettuce and ice berg lettuce, cucumber slices, and tomatoes- sprinkled with a mixture of a little salt, olive oil and lemon juice.
Gail Said:Is anyone familiar with this lamb and rice dish?
We Answered:My grandmother was Ukranian. Most Russian food is influenced by Asian and many other foods since it is such a vast part of the world. Like with the U.S., there is no single way to cook lamb which, by the way, this is not 'pilaf,' it is 'palau.' It may come close to what you need, except for adding the salad.
LAMB AND RICE PALAU
600 g lamb.
3 tb fat.
4 ea onion.
5 ea carrot.
1 c cubed tomatoes in sauce
1 c rice.
1 1/2 c water.
Slice onion and put it on the bottom of a well-heated heavy pot and fry until light golden. Slice meat and fry with onion. Add juliienned carrot, salt, pepper and and simmer 20 minutes. Wash rice under running water and put evenly on meat layer (1 cup rice – 1 1/2 cup water). Bring to boil, making holes to let air get out. Add tomatoes, cover and cook, not stirring, on low heat for an hour. Take off from the heat, cover warm and leave for 15 minutes. Stir carefully and serve on a large dish.
