French Dressing
14 Sevings
1/2 cup vinegar
1/4 cup and 2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons grated onion
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
3/4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 (12 ounce) bottle chili sauce
1/2 cup vegetable oil

In a bowl or jar with a tight-fitting lid, mix vinegar, sugar and onion. Combine salt, mustard, paprika and 2 tablespoons chili sauce to form a paste. Add remaining chili sauce and mix well. Pour into vinegar mixture; add oil and mix or shake well. Store in the refrigerator.


You know you are right to be concerned about propylene glycol. I've just read that propylene glycol is considered unsafe to be used in food yet it is being added to it and now wine has it. I read that it is used to make antifreeze and de-icing solutions for cars, airplanes, and boats. It is also used in hydraulic brake fluids and inks used in stamp pads, ballpoint pens, and print shops.

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

4 garlic cloves, halved

2 or 3 teaspoons horseradish, if desired

Mix all ingredients in a large jar. Cover and shake until well blended. Store in refrigerator. Makes 2 cups of French dressing.

3/4 cup vegetable oil or olive oil
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt

1 clove garlic, halved

Put all ingredients in a jar with a screw-top lid. Cover jar and shake vigorously to blend well. Chill dressing for 8 hours or overnight and remove garlic before serving. Shake well before using.

100 ml (3.5 fluid ounces) olive oil

- 70 ml (2.5 fluid ounces) balsamic vinegar

- 30 g mustard (1 ounce, or a heaping tablespoon)

- 45 g (1.5 ounces, or a large heaping tablespoon) crème fraîche (soured cream)

Place all ingredients in a jar or other sealed container

Shake until all ingredients are mixed (about 1 minute of vigorous shaking for the soured cream to break down and mix in)

To serve:

Pour into a small bowl.

Place a tablespoon in the bowl so that guests can spoon the dressing over their salad.

If the oil starts to separate from the vinegar, simply stir the ingredients with the spoon until they mix again

The Anthony's restaurant chain serves a great Louie salad dressing. Anyone have the recipe?

We Answered:

Although this is obviously not from Anthony's Restaurant Chain, (I work in a family run Winery and we NEVER give out our recipes, so I doubt a chain would, maybe you could buy it from them) it looks pretty good to me, hope this helps!

Louis Dressing:

1 c Mayonnaise, use the real
-thing, like Hellmann's
1/2 c Chili sauce
1 tb Parsley, fresh, minced
1 ts Lemon juice, fresh, not
-bottled
1 ts Horseradish, prepared
1/2 ts Onion, grated
1/8 ts Salt
1/8 ts Pepper

Instructions

1. Stir ingredients together. Cover and chill. Makes 1-1/2 cups. Good as a salad dressing or dip, wonderful with boiled shrimp as an alternative to ketchup-based dip, and fantastic with Onion Mums.

Taco Salad
1 pound lean ground beef
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 head iceberg lettuce, chopped or shredded
1 bunch romaine lettuce, chopped
3 large tomatoes, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 bunch green onions, chopped
1 (4 oz.) can jalapeno peppers or 3 to 4 fresh ones,
finely chopped
1 (15 oz.) can red kidney beans, drained
1 (15 oz.) can garbanzo beans, drained
1 (12 oz.) bag shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
2 (14.5 oz.) bags corn tortilla chips, crushed
2 cups Miracle Whip
1 cup ketchup
1 (1.25 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
Brown the beef, drain, season with chili powder and set aside to
cool.
Prepare the dressing by whisking the Miracle Whip, ketchup and
taco seasoning mix together in a small bowl.
In a large bowl, combine iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce,
tomatoes, green pepper, red pepper, green onions, jalapeno peppers,
kidney beans, garbanzo beans, half of the cheese, half of the
crushed chips, dressing and cooled ground beef. Mix well, cover
and refrigerate.
Just before serving, top the salad with the other half of the
cheese and crushed chips. Serve with whole chips on the side.

Poppy Seed Dressing
1ts honey
1/2 ts dry mustard

1/2 ts poppy seeds
dash ground ginger
1/4 C orange or lemon juice
1/4 C mayo

Combine all in a jar (with a lid) and shake.

This is delicious over a salad, or used in a recipe or over non citrus fruits.


Mindy's lemon-soy dressing
2 TB lemon juice
1 TB soy sauce
1 ts granulated sugar
1/4 C vegetable oil

Whisk first 3 ingredients into oil. Pour over the salad greens of your choice

Spur Salad & French Fry Dressing - Recipe please?

All I know is that the sauce 'a thousand islands' plays a huge role in it. I also know that you can buy the Spur dressing from any Spur, just ask at the pay-counter. These ones you buy never taste 100% like the ones on the tables but I think that's just because the ones on the tables have had some time to 'mature'... :D

*EDIT* I worked for a couple of months in a Spur and we were told that when little bubbles appear in the inside of the white sauce bottle it is old and we must then through it back into the big container with the newer sauce, mix it a bit, and then pour it back into the bottle...
When the brown sauce got bubbles, it needed to be boiled...
