make some 1inch thick patties put on a broiler pan and set broiler to about 450 . flip patties about 15 minutes of cooking. cook until done. put on a plate with mashed potatoes and some green beans or fried okra. pour the gravy on top of steak and potatoes. we like to pour it over everything! I love steak, so i am a little jealous you are having it tonight. Here is how i prepare mine. First i use a dry rub consiting of Salt, Pepper, Garlic powder, Onion powder, Paprika, Montreal Seasoning, and roasted garlic pepper. Put a nice coat over each side. Dont over do it, then i charbroil it. I have a show kitchen so i have a charbroiler. If you dont, grill it. If you still cant, i prefer cast iron skillets. Cook it until rare which is about a minute on each side depending on the temp. Then i make a simple Au Jus out of onions and rosemary. I place the steaks into this au jus and place them into the oven for about 5 minutes or until Medium rare. that flavor soaks in and BAM!!!! pure heaven. And please please dont use steak sauce. I'll try to answer cuz you look like me- only perturbed.My guys(husband and son) like a garlic, pepper rub on the steak -cut in strips; I flour both sides with salt and pepper added, I turn the heat up a bit so the edges get a little crispy with the flour in heated oil(not butter). It's a little more old school but it's yummy. I add onions to the mix for my husband and I. My son dips the steak in barbeque sauce but I don't feel the need. Happy eating!
Edit- I would suppose you are using round steak or some such variety that is appropriate for tenderizing and frying and not for grilling or broiling, correct?

Garlic, lemon, butter, salt.Grill to desired done-ness.
Finish with lemon juice.
You can go with a baked potato (or twice baked potato) on the side and maybe some steamed broccoli or asparagus?
