Steak Rubs

Jesus Said:

Whats the best way to cook steak on a charcoal grill? Any rubs that are good too?

We Answered:

Lots of good advice here. Couple of tips you might also find helpful. Allow steaks to stand at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before grilling. Also let them rest for 5 minutes after grilling.

For grilling times you might consult the cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com. Enter the thickness, doneness you want, etc. It will calculate grilling times on a charcoal grill.

Many of our favorite recipes recommend grilling steaks over a direct-medium fire (350°F to 375°F) or about a 4 second hand count on a covered grill.

For a southwestern flair, we also like to add a handful of mesquite wood chips that have soaked in water for about 30 minutes.

Kenneth Said:

Can I use dry rubs if I'm cooking steak in a pan?

We Answered:

Your heat probably was on too high. Dry rubs are great anyway you cook, roast, spit, grill etc. That particular rub must of had some sugar in it also.

Don't give up ~ next time it will be fine.
